COLLECTION INTEROPERABILITY

Another area of interoperability is the interoperability of collections † or repositories † of resources. Standardized metadata, harvesting protocols and search and retrieval protocols play an important role in collection interoperability. The following diagram from the IMS Digital Repository Interoperability specification (IMS, 2004) indicates the scope and complexity of the problem, even for a single repository.
